This work was painted by Van Gogh. He painted his room in Arles in October 1888 (Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Van Gogh), and a year later two other copies were painted while living in Saint-Rémy, the example shown here being the most elaborate of the three. "This time is simply my bedroom" - Van Gogh said in a letter - "and all that matters is the color, the simple objects gives more style"
